When I was little, I often struggled with chronic illnesses like asthma. I wrote children's stories and comics as an escape from my worries.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This led me to win a second-grade picture book contest with The Dog Swamp. I was so proud of it. Thanks to my mom, it went on to sell one copy. 

 

During my homeschool years as a teenager, I won a local poetry contest with a poem about James Monroe. Most underrated president, right? Someone had to talk about him.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After being diagnosed with more chronic illnesses as an adult, I delved back into writing again by typing out TV episode reviews and critiques. Dozens of these letters appeared in Doctor Who Magazine, where thousands of UK readers discovered my strong obsession with the Eighth Doctor and the Cybermen throughout the 2010s. Maybe a bit embarrassing?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When a few of my film reviews made it onto BBC Radio, I felt confident enough with my writing ability to start making children's stories once more. After years of receiving enough rejection letters to build a life-sized model of Mount Everest, "The Day the Dragon Cold Came" became my first published short story when it appeared in Canada's Smarty Pants Kids in 2022. Two more tales followed in this digital publication: "Going Ape for Grape Juice" and "The Mystery of the Great Lost Something." "Mystery" features the introduction of one of my favorite creations, Neil Trekker, Space Inspector.

 

I was also honored to have Halloween-themed "The Sweetest Treat" digitally published by Skipping Stones Magazine in 2022. Then, the most impossible of impossible things happened: a story of mine got accepted by Cricket Media! "A Tired Tire" was inspired by both my love and frustrations with rural living. It was published in print by Cricket Magazine's Spider publication in July 2023.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And just when I thought the publishing ride had reached its peak, my first picture book was picked up by Free Spirit Publishing only a month later. My Life as an Asthmanaut: A book about asthma chronicles my struggles with asthma as a kid, but also celebrates the inner strength we have in fighting illness and the loving support that's always around us. The development of this nonfiction book, which is a part of the Disability Books for Kids series, has been one of the most fulfilling journeys of my life, and I can't believe that it's now out in the world!
